Who is William Arthur Lewis?
William Arthur Lewis is an English economist, known for his remarkable economic mindset, making great contributions to the field of development economics. He won the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1979 and left many valuable economic philosophies for the economy later.
William Arthur Lewis possessed greater sensitivity to the economy
Ever since he was in school, William Arthur Lewis has shown an interest in the disciplines of economics. He paid special attention to issues such as monopoly, valuation, competition, ... At the age of 17, he won a scholarship to study the Business Faculty of the London School of Economics. He is also interested in Economic History, World Economics and Development Economics. By 1937 he graduated from university and in 1941, at just 26 years old, William Arthur Lewis excellently achieved a doctorate.
The development of William Arthur Lewis continued to take place after completing his doctorate, he became a lecturer at the University of Manchester. In 1959, this talented economist and lecturer became vice rector of West Indies University. In 1963, he was awarded the title of Knight. That same year, he was invited to be a lecturer at Princeton University. He was invited by Friedrich Hayek - famous Austrian economist and politician to lecture on economic history between two world wars.
Besides teaching, William Arthur Lewis also contributed many valuable ideas to the country's economy. 1970, he became the director of the Caribbean Development Bank. And in 1979, for his great contributions, William Arthur Lewis received the Nobel Prize in Economics, becoming the first black person to receive a Nobel Prize not in the field of Peace.
On June 15, 1991, Arthur Lewis died in Barbados at the age of 76. And his valuable ideas and priceless knowledge passed down to the next generations are always cared and appreciated.
